Residents in Kumasi and surrounding communities are being advised to store water ahead of a temporary shutdown of the Barekese Water Treatment Plant for critical maintenance works.
In a statement issued on Thursday, Ghana Water Ltd said repair works would be carried out on the transmission pipeline at the Barekese Water Treatment Plant to ensure its continued reliability and safe operation.
The company said the plant will be shut down from 6:00am on Tuesday, 9th June 2026, until 6:00am on Thursday, 11th June 2026 to allow engineers to complete the repairs.
The planned maintenance is expected to affect water supply in the Kumasi Metropolitan Area and nearby communities served by the facility.
Ghana Water apologised for the inconvenience and urged customers to store enough water for domestic use during the shutdown period.
The company said the repairs are necessary to improve the reliability and sustainability of water service delivery and assured customers that production and supply would resume immediately after the works are completed.
