Reports reaching metrotvonline.com indicate that a major dispute has erupted within the Audit Service, with the Audit Service Board openly challenging claims made by Auditor-General Johnson Akuamoah Asiedu regarding the promotion of senior officers.
The Audit Service Board has publicly contradicted the Auditor-General over a controversial staff promotion directive, declaring that key claims contained in his memo were inaccurate and ordering the immediate suspension of the instructions pending a full-scale investigation.
In a memo dated May 21, 2026, titled “Promotion of Officers,” the Auditor-General informed staff that the Board, at its 129th Regular Meeting held on May 19, had approved the promotion of Emmanuel Fosu Gyeabour to the position of Deputy Auditor-General. According to the memo, the promotion was to take effect following the compulsory retirement of Judith Kwaaku on June 5, 2026.
However, in a sharp rebuttal that has exposed deep cracks within the institution, Audit Service Board Chairman Victor Cudjoe Gborglah stated that the promotion of Mr. Gyeabour was “not discussed nor approved” at the Board’s 129th meeting as claimed by the Auditor-General.
The Board Chairman further disputed claims regarding the promotion of two District Auditors to the rank of Director, explaining that the matter had been deferred after the Auditor-General failed to provide adequate justification to support the proposed elevations.
Citing concerns over fairness, transparency and industrial harmony, the Board has directed that all instructions contained in the Auditor-General’s memo be suspended pending a comprehensive investigation into promotions and transfers within the Service.
The Board has also ordered that all future communications on promotions and transfers be routed through the Board Secretariat.
The unprecedented public contradiction has intensified scrutiny on the Auditor-General’s handling of personnel matters and sparked questions over compliance with established governance procedures within the Audit Service.
The matter remains under investigation, with further developments expected in the coming days.
Reports indicate that Metro TV and Original TV will continue to keep the public updated as the situation unfolds, ensuring viewers are brought fully up to speed on the ongoing dispute within the Audit Service.
Meanwhile, it is also emerging that a petition has been filed to the Chief of Staff, adding a new layer of administrative and political interest to the matter as stakeholders await the outcome of the Board’s investigation.
