FIFA has announced a new pre match ceremony for the 2026 World Cup that will see every player named in a matchday squad take part in the build up to games before kick off.
Under the new format, all players, including substitutes, will line up around the centre circle before the national anthems are played. The move marks a significant change from the traditional pre match routine, which typically features only the starting players on the pitch during the formalities.
The ceremony will also include extra large national flag banners displayed on the field, adding to the spectacle before matches begin.
Players will enter the pitch through a dedicated arch positioned closest to the tunnel, creating a more structured and unified entrance for both teams.
FIFA said the changes are designed to enhance the matchday experience and create a more visually striking occasion ahead of World Cup fixtures.
The new ceremony means every member of a matchday squad will be involved in the pre match proceedings, placing greater emphasis on team unity and giving substitutes a more prominent role before the action gets under way.
