GFA, Sports Ministry to hold national prayer service for Ghana football

The Ghana Football Association (GFA), in partnership with the Ministry of Sports and Recreation, will hold a national interdenominational thanksgiving and prayer service on Sunday, May 17, 2026.

The service is scheduled for 3pm at All Saints Anglican Church and is expected to bring together football administrators, government officials, clergy, sponsors and other stakeholders.

GFA president Kurt Okraku and Sports Minister Kofi Adams are expected to lead the gathering, alongside members of the GFA Executive Council, GFA staff and other football stakeholders.

The prayer service will focus on Ghana football, with special prayers for the Black Stars following their qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America.

Prayers will also be offered for the Black Princesses after securing qualification to another FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup, while attention will also turn to the Black Starlets at the ongoing CAF U-17 Africa Cup of Nations and the Black Maidens in their FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup qualifying campaign.

The gathering will further celebrate Ghana’s U-15 girls team for successfully defending the African Schools Football Championship title in Zimbabwe.

The service will also include thanksgiving for the organisation of domestic competitions, including the Ghana Premier League, Women’s Premier League and Division One League.

Rt Reverend Dr Daniel Sylvanus Torto, Anglican Bishop of Accra, will lead the service and deliver the sermon alongside other members of the clergy.
