Give leadership positions to young ones – Lay President of the Methodist Church Ghana

The Lay President of the Methodist Church Ghana, Lawyer William Orleans Oduro, has called on the leadership of the church to create more space in leadership for the young ones.

According to him, there is a mandatory injunction in the constitution of the Methodist Church Ghana to have thirty per cent of the youth in leadership positions.

“They are the majority in the church. These young ones are intelligent, smart and above all, they are computer literates. This is the mass we are neglecting. So, let us use the young ones to move the church forward,” he advocated.

Lawyer Oduro made the above call during a valedictory service in his honour last Sunday at the Wesley Methodist Cathedral, Asafoiatse Nettey Road, Accra.

He explained that the ages of these young ones should not hinder them to occupy key leadership positions in the church.

“Our Lord and Saviour was 30 years old when he started his ministry. Clearly, all the disciples were young,” he said.

“Apart from Matthew who was described as a tax collector, the rest were fishermen; at least these were the qualifications we see in the Bible. Most of them were not educated but when they had the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, look at what they did to the world and we are beneficiaries of their exploits,” he added.

He, therefore, challenged the leadership of the church to allow the young ones to take the lead as regards the rapid growth of the church.

“I am challenging the leaders that efforts be made to have these young ones between the ages of 18 and 35 as leaders in our church. I am a beneficiary of that enterprise as I speak to you today as the Lay President of the Methodist Church Ghana,” he disclosed.

Lawyer William Orleans Oduro is the immediate past Vice-President of the Ghana Bar Association.

He is a member of the Bible Society of Ghana and Chairman of the Bono Regional Oversight Committee.

In addition, Lawyer Oduro is a Board Member of the Wenchi Methodist Hospital and Board Chairman of Alpha Royal Publications Limited.

Members of the 11th Biennial and 49th Conference of the Methodist Church Ghana elected Lawyer Oduro as the Lay President.
